Report: NYC Officials, Yankees Exec Part Of NYPD Ticket-Fixing Scandal
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A person familiar with a probe at the New York Police Department told The Associated Press on Thursday that several high-ranking city government officials are among those who've had their traffic tickets fixed.
The person didn't name the officials or say how many were involved. The person also confirmed a report a New York Yankees executive had a ticket fixed.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the case is the subject of a secret grand jury probe.
Law enforcement officials have said up to 40 police officers are being eyed for possible misconduct and criminal charges in the Bronx and scores more could be disciplined administratively. The criminal cases could be brought by July.
Union officials said undoing paperwork on traffic citations before they reach court as a favor isn't criminal.
