Report: MLB Expected To Announce Suspension Of A-Rod In 2-3 Weeks
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Well we know that we won't see Alex Rodriguez on the field against the Rangers on Monday night, as was expected.
In fact, we don't really know when the next time we'll see A-Rod in pinstripes, as the 14-time All-Star has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his left quadriceps.
But Rodriguez has more pressing matters to worry about, even if he's not admitting so publicly.
According to CBSSports.com/WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman, the third baseman "is all but assured of a Biogenesis-related MLB ban being levied against him."
He's expected to be suspended for at least 50 games. He has a right to appeal, and he almost certainly will, meaning that this process will very likely drag out for an extended period of time.
But Major League Baseball's first punch might be thrown very shortly. Bans for A-Rod and other players with ties to the Biogenesis clinic are expected to be announced within the next two to three weeks, Heyman reported.
Rodriguez opted not to answer questions when he recently met with MLB investigators, sources told CBSSports.com.
But his silence is unlikely to stop the bleeding.
"I don't think he's going to beat the suspension back to the field," one person connected to the 37-year-old told CBSSports.com.
The three-time American League MVP, who underwent a full rehab assignment before getting hurt with Triple-A Scranton, now must sit for five days before beginning a new rehab assignment. But unfortunately for the Yankees, who desperately need a presence in the middle of their order, it's unclear how much time Rodriguez will need before getting back on the field.
"He's looking at a lengthy suspension," another person connected to players told the website in regard to A-Rod.
The 20-year veteran batted .272 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs for the Yankees in 2012. He hasn't played at all this season.
