Report: Mets Block Yankees' Triple-A Team From Season In Newark
NEWARK, NJ (WCBS 880) - When the Yankees' minor league team in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, needed a temporary home, Riverfront Stadium in Newark seemed a perfect fit.

But, under the rules of the game, the Mets, being the other local big league team, have a say.
Reportedly, they've said no.
Mansor Islam works at a deli near the stadium. He thinks, outside of some college games, crowds for the ballpark are shrinking.
"Before it used to be a lot more," he told WCBS 880 reporter Paul Murnane. "Like 3,000 or 4,000 used to be there. It was a lot more crowded."
Mayor Cory Booker has tweeted, saying "I'm not happy about this."
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the Yankees even offered the Mets an "evergreen matching proposal." Meaning, the Amazin's would have the Yankees' blessing for a similar, temporary move at any time in the future.
It reportedly wasn't enough.
