Report: Man Arrested After Melee In Madison Avenue Jewelry Store
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A melee broke out at a fine jewelry store on Madison Avenue Wednesday afternoon, after a man attacked a security guard who would not let him in, according to a published report.
Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the man rang the doorbell at de Grisogono, at 824 Madison Ave. on the Upper East Side, which sells watches, jewelry and other accessories, according to DNAInfo.
The security officer opened the door slightly to look and decided not to let the man in, DNAInfo reported. The man became irate, punched the guard and forced his way inside, where he ordered the staff to hand over catalogues and business cards and let him look at jewelry, police told DNAInfo.
Employees fled the empty showroom and called police, the publication reported. Two of the employees locked themselves in the bathroom, DNAInfo reported.
A food cart operator and another security guard stepped in to restrain the man until police arrived and arrested him, DNAInfo reported.
Police have not released any official information about the incident.
