Report: Lhota Apologizes For Saying Bloomberg Acted 'Like An Idiot'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman Joseph Lhota has apologized, after saying Mayor Michael Bloomberg acted "like an idiot" when he predicted the Queens-Midtown tunnel might open early.
Lhota was on a call with New York director of state operations Howard Glaser Thursday, and a New York Times reporter was present at the time. Lhota told Glaser the tunnel could open Friday, and said Bloomberg, "like an idiot," publicly predicted that the tunnel might not open until the weekend, according to the New York Times report.
The Times account went on to say Lhota spouted "a brief hail of profanity in which Mr. Lhota wondered aloud who, exactly, Mr. Bloomberg had been talking to."
The "idiot" comment appeared at the end of a longer story on the restoration of the subway, but soon became its own headline.
The New York Daily News reported Lhota called Bloomberg to apologize Friday morning. Lhota declined to comment to the Daily News.
