Report: Knicks Preparing An Offer To Power Forward Elton Brand
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Knicks are preparing an offer to free agent power forward Elton Brand, according to ESPN. The terms of the deal are not yet known.
New York is looking to fill a rebounding need, and Brand appears willing to be used in a rotation system. The 34-year-old spent four of his past five seasons in Philadelphia before being bought out through a one-time amnesty provision. He was claimed by the Dallas Mavericks, where he spent last season in a backup role.
Should Brand join the Knicks, he would be close to his hometown of Peekskill, N.Y.
The Knicks are waiting on the league to approve a deal to bring Andrea Bargnani to New York. They will reportedly send Steve Novak, Marcus Camby, a future first-round pick and two future second-round picks to Toronto. On July 10, the NBA lifts their moratorium.
Re-signing sixth man J.R. Smith remains the Knicks' greatest offseason priority. They are also looking to potentially re-sign Chris Copeland and Pablo Prigioni. Copeland is expecting to field offers from multiple NBA teams.
