Report: Knicks Aggressively Shopped Stoudemire
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Amar'e Stoudemire is edging closer to returning to the New York Knicks' lineup. Stoudemire has been practicing and trying to get up to full speed after recovering from knee surgery.
According to Howard Beck of the New York Times, Stoudemire has been heavily shopped by the Knicks since last February. In February, the Knicks had discussions with the Toronto Raptors over trading Stoudemire to Toronto in an effort to add Andrea Bargnani. Knicks' owner James Dolan rejected the deal before the Raptors had the chance to respond.
The Knicks also attempted to package Tyson Chandler and Stoudemire in an effort to acquire Dwight Howard while he was with the Orlando Magic.
Beck also revealed that the Knicks dangled the 30-year-old to nearly every team in the NBA this summer. Carmelo Anthony is thriving at the power forward position and Tyson Chandler has been one of the most dominant centers in the league.
It's up to Stoudemire to fit into head coach Mike Woodson's plans. Considering Stoudemire's age, injury history and how well the Knicks are playing without him, it remains to be see what kind of role Stoudemire will have when he returns.
