Report: Jets GM Not 'Clear' On Compensation In Revis Trade Talks
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Jets general manager John Idzik "has not been clear" on what he wants as compensation for cornerback Darrelle Revis in trade talks, according to the New York Post.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are willing to give up a first- and third-round pick in the 2014 draft for Revis -- and would likely bump the third-rounder up to a second-rounder, Peter King of Sports Illustrated reported Thursday. But the Jets reportedly have their eyes on Tampa Bay's No. 13 overall pick in this year's draft and an additional selection.
New York already owns the No. 9 selection in 2013.
When asked this week on SiriusXM NFL Radio whether Revis was on the trade market, Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said, "I don't know if he really is, honestly. That's a tough question for me to answer. You have to get John Idzik on here and grill him about that."
The Bucs are the Jets' only serious trade partner -- and they're losing patience, the Post reported.
Revis suffered a torn ACL in September. The 27-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season if he doesn't skip any mandatory team activities.
He'll be looking for a mega-bucks contract — something the rebuilding Jets might not be willing to offer. Signing Revis to a long-term deal wouldn't be a snag for Tampa Bay. The team is "prepared" to meet the player's price of around $15-16 million per year, according to the Post.
The Jets would be taking a big risk if they let Revis play out the year with reportedly little intention of locking him up. Coach Rex Ryan said from the NFL meetings Tuesday that New York hasn't been "actively" dangling the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback.
"I know for a fact that we're not actively trying to trade Darrelle Revis," Ryan said. "At the same time, if somebody calls, you're going to listen."
