Report: Giants Haven't Ruled Out Reunion With Brandon Jacobs
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Brandon Jacobs hasn't exactly been keeping it a secret. He wants to return to the Giants.
But what are the chances, really? Does general manager Jerry Reese even want him back?
Well, they haven't ruled it out, according to the New York Post.
On Monday, the Post published a screen grab from Jacobs' Instagram account. The running back uploaded an image of himself bowling over a Patriots defender as a member of the Giants, with the caption, "Trying to get back in this uniform."
There have been no "formal discussions" between Jacobs and New York, the Post reported.
"Don't know who these sources are but there is nothing going on people," Jacobs tweeted Tuesday morning.
Jacobs was released by the Giants in March 2012 and landed with the San Francisco 49ers. His tenure in the Bay Area ended in controversy when he posted a picture of himself in a Giants uniform on Instagram and wrote, "I am on this team rotting away so why would I wanna put any pics up of anything that say niners. This is by far the worst year I ever had, I'll tell you like I told plenty others."
The 30-year-old was suspended for the final three games of the season. He was released before the team's Super Bowl run.
Jacobs, whose time in New York wasn't without controversy, played in just two games for the Niners last season, rushing five times for 7 yards. A knee injury cost him the first two months of the season and he wasn't a factor upon his return.
New York released Ahmad Bradshaw early in the offseason. First-round pick David Wilson is expected to take over as the team's No. 1 running back after an impressive rookie campaign.
Jacobs was selected by New York in the fourth round of the 2005 draft. The two-time Super Bowl champion has 4,856 career rushing yards -- 4,849 and all 60 combined touchdowns coming in his seven seasons with the Giants.
Jacobs rushed for 571 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011, his last season with Big Blue.
