Report: Fort Lee Mayor Claims He Was Courted By Christie Camp For Years
FORT LEE, N.J.(CBSNewYork) -- Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich has launched more claims against Gov. Chris Christie's administration.
Fort Lee Mayor Claims He Was Courted By Christie Camp For Years
Sokolich told the Bergen Record that the Christie Campaign courted his backing for more than two years and used the Port Authority to heap gifts on Fort Lee in the form of shuttle buses, emergency radios, pothole repairs, and a personal tour of the 9/11 memorial for the mayor and his cousins.
Sokolich said that he was never told that the gifts were in exchange for a future endorsement but that he got the sense after the George Washington Bridge scandal exploded, WCBS 880 reported.
The mayor claimed that Gov. Christie invited him to lunch with other mayors, including Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, four years ago at the governor's mansion in Princeton.
A spokesman for the Christie camp said that the claims represent a direct contradiction of the mayor's public comments up to this point.
