Report: Fatal Police Shooting Under Investigation In Connecticut
RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (AP)--Connecticut state police are investigating after Ridgefield police officers responding to an emergency report of a possible domestic dispute fatally shot a man armed with a handgun in the yard of a private home.
Authorities say a Ridgefield police officer opened fire after the man refused to obey orders to put down his handgun and raised the weapon toward the officers. He was taken from the Ridgebury home to Danbury Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead Friday evening.
State police officers are investigating circumstances surrounding the incident at the request of the Danbury state attorney and Ridgefield police chief.
State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance on Saturday said the identities of the man and officers involved in the shooting will likely be released Tuesday.
Public records show the home belongs to 75-year-old John Valluzzo.
