Report: Ex-Met Justin Turner Agrees To Minors Deal With Dodgers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former Met Justin Turner has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Dodgers, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.
The infielder's deal includes an invitation to spring training, according to Hernandez.
The Dodgers haven't announced the move, but Turner took to Twitter to share his excitement about joining the National League West favorites.
The 29-year-old played with the Amazin's from 2010-2013 after beginning his career with the Orioles. Somewhat surprisingly, Turner was non-tendered -- along with Jeremy Hefner, Scott Atchison, Omar Quintanilla and Jordany Valdespin -- by general manager Sandy Alderson in early December.
Alderson re-signed Hefner and Quintanilla to minor-league deals, while Atchison and Valdespin agreed with other clubs.
A prototypical utility player, Turner played 15 games at first base, 12 games at second base, 23 games at third base, 18 games at shortstop and one game in left field in 2013.
Mostly coming off the bench, the jovial hustler batted .280 with two homers and 16 RBIs last season, posting a .319 on-base percentage.
During his tenure in Queens, he was affectionately known for frequently pieing teammates after games when they performed well.
