Report: Driver In Fatal Poughkeepsie Crash Was Wanted By Police
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A man who was arrested in a crash that killed a Poughkeepsie couple and injured their two children was wanted on a parole violation, according to authorities.
State corrections officials told The Poughkeepsie Journal that 22-year-old Ryan Floryan was released from prison in March after serving two years for robbery.
City of Poughkeepsie police said they were trying to stop Floryan for driving aggressively Wednesday afternoon when he failed to stop at a red light and struck a car carrying Shawn Wonderly and Patricia DeSantola Wonderly and their two children, ages 7 and 8.
The couple was killed. Their children were treated at a hospital for unspecified injuries.
"He took my son. I don't know what to say," Shawn Wonderly's father, Larry Wonderly, told CBS 2's Emily Smith. "An 8- and a 7-year-old, they've been in an accident. They've seen carnage which no one ever wants to have to see and I'm not sure they
really understand."
Police shut down the intersection for five hours after the crash.
Floryan has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and is being held on $250,000 bail.
