Report: Dolphins To Turn Over Football Operations To Mike Tannenbaum
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- He's back. Well, sort of.
During Mike Tannenbaum's tenure as general manager the Jets went to back-to-back AFC Championship games. Now he'll reportedly be working against them, for one of their most hated rivals to boot.
According to Pro Football Talk, Tannenbaum will be named executive vice president of football operations with the Miami Dolphins. Under that power structure, GM Dennis Hickey and executive VP of football administration Dawn Aponte would answer to Tannenbaum, who served as a consultant to owner Stephen Ross this past season.
Tannenbaum is currently an agent representing several NFL and NBA coaches, including Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who, ironically, is considered a leading candidate to become the next head coach of the Jets.
Tannenbaum will reportedly stay on with his clients before beginning his new role with the Dolphins on Feb. 1.
The Jets went 57-55 during Tannenbaum's seven seasons as GM, and 4-3 in three playoff appearances. He was replaced by John Idzik after the Jets went 6-10 in 2012.
The Jets fired Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan on Dec. 29 following a 4-12 season.
