Report: Citi Field Will Play 'Enter Sandman' For Rivera At All-Star Game
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Yankees fans will hear some familiar music coming from the PA system at Citi Field in the 84th MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night.
When legendary closer Mariano Rivera enters the game -- whenever that will be -- he will be accompanied by Metallica's "Enter Sandman," baseball sources told FOX Sports.
"Enter Sandman" has been Rivera's entrance music since 1999.
"It will be a fitting tribute to one of the great players and people the game has seen," Yankees president Randy Levine said, according to the website. "Thanks to the Mets and to MLB."
American League manager Jim Leyland made the promise that New York fans will see Rivera in the game regardless of the score.
This will be Rivera's 13th and final All-Star appearance, as he will retire at the end of the season. Over the course of his 13 All-Star appearances, the 43-year-old has allowed just one run and struck out five in eight innings, recording four saves.
The future Hall of Famer is having a tremendous final campaign for the Bronx Bombers. The 19-year veteran has converted 30 of 32 save opportunities and owns a 1.83 ERA. He has struck out 32 and walked seven in 34 1/3 innings pitched.
