Report: Carrasco, Paulino Reach Agreement With Mets
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The New York Mets have agreed to terms with free agent catcher Ronny Paulino and right-handed reliever D.J. Carrasco, reports Andy McCullough of Star-Ledger.
From the Star-Ledger:
"The team reached tentative agreements with a pair of players, signing reliever D.J. Carrasco to a two-year contract worth a reported $2.5 million, and catcher Ronny Paulino to a one-year deal worth a reported $1.3 million, according to a baseball official who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly."
Both deals are pending physicals.
Paulino was issued a 50-game suspension last year for performance-enhancing drugs. The suspension will extend into the first eight games of the 2011 season.
Carrasco was 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA in 63 relief appearances last year, pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
According to McCullough, the Mets' top free agent targets remain former San Diego Padres starter Chris Young and former Colorado Rockies lefty Jeff Francis.
