Report: Carlos Delgado To Be Questioned About Relationship With Anthony Galea
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former Mets slugger Carlos Delgado will be questioned on Wednesday about his relationship with Anthony Galea, according to the New York Daily News.
Galea, if you might recall, is the Canadian sports-medicine specialist who has been linked to performance-enhancing drugs. Galea reportedly treated Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez in 2009.
The ex-first baseman's deposition follows a lawsuit that Delgado filed in 2009 in Nassau County Supreme Court, the New York Daily News reported. In that lawsuit, the two-time All-Star asserted that Spencer Lader, a sports memorabilia dealer, and his partners owe him at least $767,500 for an arrangement that took place in 2006.
According to the newspaper, Lader is interested in learning if Delgado used PEDs. If it's found out that he did, memorabilia with Delgado's name on it loses significant value.
"I'm not saying Delgado used steroids, but I do have a right to know if he did," Lader told the New York Daily News in January. "We thought his name had commercial value, but everybody knows players linked to steroids have no commercial value."
In addition to A-Rod and Delgado, Carlos Beltran, Tiger Woods and Jose Reyes have reportedly been treated by Galea. The specialist has denied providing the professional athletes with any forms of banned substances.
Delgado played 17 years in the big leagues, including four with the Mets (2005-2009). He was one of the premier power hitters of the late 1990s and 2000s, batting .280 with 473 homers and 1,512 RBIs for his career.
He hit 38 homers for the Mets in both 2006 and 2008.
