Report: Bidder Determined To Meet A-Rod, Make Lunch 'As Awkward As Possible'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Alex Rodriguez is dealing with a lot these days.

Mainly, he's attempting to avoid a 211-game suspension handed down by Major League Baseball and get back on the field to help the Yankees.

But he still has time to break bread with fans!

Lunch with the embattled third baseman is being auctioned off as part of David Ortiz's Celebrity Golf Classic.

29-year-old Joe Schiff of Midwood, Brooklyn, is determined to win and spend quality time with the three-time American League MVP, according to NJ.com.

If he comes out on top, he plans to make the most of his once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

"I thought it would be pretty cool to sit down with one of the most controversial people in the world," the Yankees fan told the website. "What I'm thinking about asking A-Rod is, 'Are you guilty?' I want to make it as awkward as possible for him ... He's ripping off the Yankees for $28 million a year. I think it's wrong."

Schiff is willing to bid as high as $3,500 to win the auction, according to NJ.com.

He would also like to know about Rodriguez's personal life.

According to the website, Schiff plans to say to A-Rod, "You're a pretty smart guy, but I don't know how you make all the wrong choices in life. Why can't you just settle down?"

NJ.com reported on Tuesday afternoon that Schiff was the lone bidder. But as of Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. there were 12 bidders, with the current bid at $3,700, according to the auction's webpage.

Will Schiff go beyond $3,500 to make his dream come true?

The online auction opened last Friday and will close on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
