Report: Banged-Up Knicks Exploring Trade For Raptors' Lowry
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- In case you've been living under a rock for the last six weeks, the Knicks have major problems.
And every day those problems seem to multiply.
Take Thursday for example. It was learned that point guard Raymond Felton will miss the next two to three weeks with a strained left hamstring and top defender Iman Shumpert may miss some time due to a left knee injury.
Felton has been bothered by the hamstring for much of the season and was finally shut down prior to the Knicks' 83-78 home win over Chicago on Wednesday. He had an MRI exam Thursday to confirm the injury.
Shumpert was hurt during the win as well, banging his knees during a collision on the court.
Add those injuries to the broken leg suffered by Tyson Chandler, a mishap that sent the Knicks spiraling toward the 6-15 mess they are right now, and the constant state of tension surrounding head coach Mike Woodson and it's understandable that the front office would be trying to do something.
According to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks had interest in Denver's Andre Miller, but are focusing now on trying to make deal for Toronto Kyle Lowry. They are considering sending Felton, Metta World Peace and a 2018 first-round draft pick to the Raptors for the 27-year-old point guard, Wojnarowski reported.
The Knicks are said to be hesitant to give up the draft pick, but several teams, including the rival Brooklyn Nets, have apparently called the Raptors about Lowry, making a deal without the pick all but impossible, Wojnarowski reported.
Lowry, who was taken 24th overall by Memphis in the 2006 draft, is averaging a career-high 14.6 points and 6.7 assists this season.
What the Raptors might be looking for in the deal was not immediately known.
The Knicks have been rumored in several deal this season, most notably the one that would have sent Shumpert to Denver for Kenneth Faried, but was flatly rejected by the Nuggets.
Despite their brutal record, the Knicks have won three of their last five and sit just 2.5 games out of first in the awful Atlantic Division.
