Report: 9-Year-Old Stabbing Victim Gets Care Package From Derek Jeter
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The boy who survived an attack by a man who plunged a 4-inch hunting knife in his back five times has received a special delivery.
The boy was just 8-years-old when Evan Sachs, 23, attacked him at a Dave & Buster's restaurant in Westbury in October of 2010. Sachs was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to the attack.
After the sentencing in September, Newsday reports Nassau Court Judge Jerald Carter asked the parents of the boy who his favorite sports star was. The answer was Derek Jeter.
As it happens, Carter reportedly played baseball in college with Jeter's father and the two are still friends.
Several weeks later, a package arrived at the boy's home containing a signed baseball, Derek Jeter's autographed picture, a Yankees teddy bear and more, according to the report.
