Rell: Connecticut Against Latest MTA Proposals
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell is pushing back against plans by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority that would affect costs of some Metro-North train tickets.
Rell on Tuesday directed Department of Transportation Commissioner Jeffrey Parker to oppose the MTA's proposals over concerns they will turn away Metro-North passengers.
The MTA will hold public hearings in Stamford on Wednesday and New Haven on Thursday on their plans that include eliminating discounts on tickets purchased by mail and online.
Other proposals include shortening the validity of 10-trip and single-trip tickets and introducing a $15 fee to redeem unused tickets.
DOT officials say they have the authority to reject the discount eliminations, but they have no control over the other proposals.
