Rejuvenated Jets Are Ready To Take On Buffalo

By Tyson Rauch

The New York Jets (5-4) enter their Week 11 match-up with the Buffalo Bills (3-7) as a relatively healthy team ready to make a run at a playoff berth. The Jets will be missing wide receiver Jeremy Kerley due to an elbow injury, but will be getting back Kellen Winslow (suspension), tight end Jeff Cumberland (concussion), and most likely Santonio Holmes (hamstring) as well. The return of these three players should give the offense a significant boost and will provide Geno Smith with proven playmakers that he can rely on.

Return of the tight ends

New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg must be smiling as he eyes the return of Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Winslow. Mornhinweg was down to his third and fourth string tight ends against the Saints which took away some of his passing options.

Winslow is a reliable receiving threat that serves an excellent safety valve for Geno Smith over the middle of the field. Cumberland is emerging as a playmaker in the west coast offense as opposing linebackers and safeties are struggling to cover him consistently.  With both of these guys back in the lineup, the Jets run blocking will improve on the perimeter and the passing game can flourish with wide outs receiving additional space.

Holmes to return?

All signs are pointing to wide receiver Santonio Holmes playing on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Holmes is a dynamic playmaker that requires plenty of attention from opposing defenses. Santonio could see some time in the slot to help replace the injured Kerley and may look to spread the field in the play action pass option.
