Red Sox Announce Sunday Tribute For Mariano Rivera At Fenway Park
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Boston Red Sox have announced that Yankees closer Mariano Rivera will be honored at Fenway Park prior to Sunday's game against rival New York.
The Red Sox invited fans to be seated by 7:30 p.m. for the tribute, adding that some tickets are still available. The game is scheduled to start at 8:05 p.m.
Rivera is set to call it a career after this season. Sunday night will mark his final regular-season game at Fenway.
Rivera, Major League Baseball's all-time leader with 651 saves, has been showered with gifts in his retirement tour around the American League, including a surfboard in Oakland and a rocking chair made from broken bats in Minnesota.
The 43-year-old is 13-7 with a 2.86 ERA and 58 saves in 115 career appearances against Boston.
No reliever has ever come out of the visiting bullpen at Fenway Park more than Rivera, the Red Sox said.
