Red Hot Chili Peppers Perform At WFAN Pre-Game Concert At Barclays Center
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Consider it a red hot preview of Sunday night's half-time show, where the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been invited to perform.
As CBS 2's Don Champion reported, the Chili Peppers performed at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn Saturday night as part of WFAN's Big Hello To Brooklyn pre-game concert.
Drummer Chad Smith spoke to CBS 2 about what is probably going to be a highlight of his already long and rewarding career: playing during the Super Bowl half-time show.
Smith told Champion he was shocked when he got the call about the performance. "I've never rehearsed so much for three minutes in my life," Smith said.
The band will be performing with Bruno Mars during the big game, Champion reported. "There's no pressure on us we are just crashing his gig. We pop up, things blow up."
The Chili Peppers have been in New York City for a week preparing for the big show. There's been a lot of talk about the performance and what, if any, possible surprises are in store.
"We've been known for antics. I think we will be on our best behavior for the Super Bowl," Smith said.
So what is next for the band after the Super Bowl? Smith told CBS 2 the band will start writing and work soon on a new album.
