"We've actually had two named storms already, with one aimed at Florida and Georgia right now, the Red Cross's Sam Kille told Miller.

He said there are three things you should do to prepare.

"Get a kit. Make a plan. Be informed," he said.

They suggest having supplies like bottled water and flashlights on hand, packing a bag ahead of time with copies of important documents and cash, and making sure your family is familiar with evacuation routes.

"Is there someone you can stay with? Obviously the Red Cross will open up shelters during a disaster, but it's a lot more comfortable to be on somebody's coach compared to one of our cots," he said.

He also said that your family should come up with a meeting point for if you get separated during an evacuation.
