Red Cross Helps Families Displaced By N.J. Fire
ORANGE, N.J. (CBS 2) -- More than a hundred families in New Jersey have no place to call home Monday, after a fast moving fire destroyed an apartment complex in Orange.
The five-alarm fire started on the top floor of 399 Lincoln Avenue at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
Flames quickly spread to three other buildings at the H-shaped complex. More than 12 hours later, firefighters were still at the scene putting out hot spots.
Over 100 people have been forced out of their homes.
"People don't have no insurance. they don't have any other place to stay," one resident said.
"Everything is inside, everything inside," another added.
The Red Cross set up cots in the gym at Orange High School, where 70 displaced families spent the night.
Several firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the fire.
