Rays, Rockies Among Teams Checking In With Mets On Ike Davis
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It seems there's a market for New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis after all.
The Mets are dangling Davis, and five teams have "checked in" with the team on a potential trade, according to WFAN and CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman: the Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles.
The Brewers could opt to re-sign free agent Corey Hart, Heyman reported. The Mets have shown a degree of interest in Hart as well, the New York Post reported last week.
The Mets reportedly prefer Lucas Duda over Davis at first base. COO Jeff Wilpon recently said the team has to do something about a "logjam" at the position.
Davis had a rough season for the Mets in 2013, enduring a regular showering of boos at Citi Field.
The former first-round pick batted just .205 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in 103 games. He was sent down to the minors in June and batted .364 in 10 games in Triple-A before being recalled in early July. After hitting .161 prior to his demotion, the 26-year-old hit .286 with a .449 on-base percentage in the second half. But the power never came, and he struck out 101 times in 317 at-bats.
Duda hit .223 with 15 home runs and 33 RBIs in 100 games in 2013. He played 34 games at first base and 58 games in left field.
