Rash Of Burglaries Leaves Posh Westchester Town On Edge
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (CBS 2) -- Police in an affluent Westchester County neighborhood are asking residents to be alert and aware following several home burglaries that have left many in the area concerned.
Bronxville police are patrolling the area of White Plains Road and Sherman Avenue, the scene of a home burglary Tuesday that's got neighbors rattled, reports CBS 2's Scott Rapoport.
"I'm going to lock all the windows and all the doors," resident Heidi Muse said.
"It's very disconcerting," added Rosemarie Bellone.
It's becoming an all-too-familiar occurrence in the upscale neighborhood.
"We've had three burglaries in proximity to one another," Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale said. "The method of entry has been nearly identical."
Those three burglaries have all happened in the last two months, and in each case, entry was made through a ground-floor window. The other two burglaries happened on nearby Courseview Road.
"The items stolen were jewelry in all three, so we're concerned a pattern is developing," Chief Satriale said.
In each case, no one was home at the time of the burglary.
"I certainly don't want them ransacking my home and stealing items out of my house," Bellone said.
Police are urging neighbors in the area to be cautious and are offering safety tips.
"Lock their doors, lock their windows, activate their alarms – even if they are only going out to walk the dog or pick their child up from school," Chief Satriale said. "Any time the home is vacant, we need the alarms activated."
In Tuesday's burglary, police said they recovered blood evidence and fingerprints that they hope will lead them to a suspect. They said they might be able to identify a suspect within two weeks.
