Rash Of Break-Ins Rocks Forest Hills, Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A series of burglaries in one part of Queens has left residents feeling under attack.
As CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez reported Monday, police said a bold burglar or burglars has been striking homes on the quiet and well-manicured streets of Forest Hills.
One victim, who was too afraid to reveal her identity, said the thieves broke into her home in the middle of the afternoon.
"Things were opened. Drawers were opened. Lights were on. And then I realized the window was broken," the woman said. "It's a horrible feeling; something you don't get over."
Since late February, thieves have hit nine homes between Metropolitan Avenue and Fleet Street, and between 69th and Continental avenues, police said.
Police said only one home was attacked at night, while the rest of the break-ins happened in broad daylight. Most of the homes were accessed by a back door or window.

The latest burglary happened on Olcott Street at noon on St. Patrick's Day, police said. The victims told police the burglars kicked in the front door and the alarm system went off, but the thieves still ransacked the house, taking jewelry, but leaving valuable electronics behind.
Police said they believe the homes were burglarized by the same person or group, looking for jewelry and electronics, but leaving behind big-ticket items.
The 112th Precinct Community Council planned to hold a neighborhood meeting Tuesday night to warn residents about the crime spree.
"We want people to be aware of how better to protect themselves, because there are times they're leaving their doors open," said the council's Heidi Chain. "Sometimes, they're leaving their windows open. And we want people to be able to not be a victim.
"Everyone is helping their neighbors," Chain continued. "We hope another family won't have to go through this."
And police said the more eyes watching, the better.
The community meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, at 70-01 Kessel St. in Queens.
