Rape Charges For Former White Plains Teacher After Alleged Encounters With Boy, 14
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A former Westchester County teacher was arraigned on rape charges Wednesday, after she allegedly had a sexual affair with a 14-year-old boy who attended her school.
Amanda Isles, 27 – most recently of Moss Landing, Calif. – was arraigned on a felony complaint charging her with two counts of second-degree rape, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office said.
Prosecutors claimed Isles was a teacher in the religion department at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, and had sexual encounters with the adolescent boy at an undisclosed location in Eastchester between June 11 and July 14.
The boy's parents contacted Yonkers police after learning of the encounters, prosecutors said.
Isles returned from California and surrendered to Eastchester police Wednesday morning, prosecutors said.
"As a teacher, this defendant was in a position of trust and authority. In becoming involved with a student incapable of consent, she abused that privilege. Multi-jurisdictional detective work by police quickly led to the identification and arrest of the defendant," District Attorney Janet DiFiore said in a news release.
Bail for Isles was set at $75,000 bond over $25,000 cash. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
