Rangers Sign Brandon Dubinsky To 4-Year, $16.8M Deal; Callahan Next?
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Rangers avoided arbitration with Brandon Dubinsky on Thursday, inking the star winger to a four-year, $16.8 million contract.
"I wanted to be in New York, it's the place I live year-round," Dubinsky told the New York Post. "It's the place I love, and I want to be here forever and win with this team."
The deal has an annual $4.2 million cap hit.
"At the end of the day, I think it's a home run for me," said Dubinsky, according to the paper. "I hope the team feels the same way."
The Rangers are now expected work on a pact with Ryan Callahan, who has an arbitration hearing set for July 28.
"We have not talked with the Rangers in the last few days," said Steve Bartlett, Callahan's agent, according to USA Today. "Due to the timing of the Dubinsky hearing, that is not surprising and I would assume we are now at bat."
Ousted in the first round of the playoffs, the Blueshirts have since bought out Chris Drury's contract and signed top free agent Brad Richards, among other notable moves this offseason.
"I can't wait to get going," Dubinsky told The Post. "We have a lot to prove here but I'm confident we have the team to do it. ... We have high expectations for ourselves. I think we can be contenders in the East. I really believe that."
