Rangel Sues To Overturn Censure By U.S. House
WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) has filed a lawsuit to overturn his censure.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted in 2010 to censure the Harlem congressman for financial wrongdoing.
The House found the congressman had failed to pay taxes on a vacation villa, filed misleading financial disclosure forms and improperly solicited donations for a college center from corporations with business before his committee.
Rangel, 82, said the censure should be vacated because members of the House Ethics Committee withheld evidence of misconduct in conducting their probe against him.
Rangel has served in Congress since 1983.
