Ramapo High School Gets $1M Grant To Repair Leaky Roof
SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Rockland County high school has received a $1 million grant to repair a leaky, damaged roof that sparked safety concerns for parents and students.
Two classrooms were shut down at Ramapo High School over concerns of mold caused by the damaged roof, accompanied by odors.
Funding for the repairs will come from the state's Dormitory Authority, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
State Senator David Carlucci toured the school on Monday, and called the conditions "deplorable."
"It feels damp, an odor is developing," Carlucci said Monday. "We can have a situation where mold develops and it can become a real health risk for our students and our teachers."
Carlucci said he believes it's time to start the work quickly.
"It could be more expensive, it could get delays and obviously, it could be a health risk to our children and our teachers," Carlucci said.
A start date for the project has not been confirmed.
