Hold The Rainbow, Bagel Store Employees Given Brief Break As Business Booms

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- After weeks of long lines rainbow bagel lovers were turned away on Wednesday.

As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, The Bagel Store's Bedford Ave location was closed.

"Crews been working twenty-four seven. It's really, really laborious and hard work. They needed a little bit of a break," marketing director Francine LaBarbara said.

Sales of the swirly colored bagels really started to roll when Stephen Colbert had them on "The Late Show."

During an appearance on "The Late Show," Broad City's Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson presented Colbert with a rainbow bagel. Colbert's first bite transported him to a "happy bagel place" where he was serenaded by a chorus of happy bagel babies before doing battle with a doughy monarch.

ESPN also featured the bagels on Sportscenter.

"It makes people happy. It makes me happy everyday," LaBarbara said.

When asked about the taste of the swirly colored bagels mum was the word.

"See I won't tell you how it tastes, I'm going to leave it up to you to taste it," she said.

The store will be closed for a few days.
