Rail Ridership Up At New Meadowlands Stadium

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Figures show train ridership to National Football League games at the New Meadowlands Stadium is up 50 percent this year.

The Jets have 70 percent more fans riding the rails than in 2009. The numbers have gotten a a boost from two "Monday Night Football'' games.

Giants fans are making about 26 percent more trips.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll tells The Record newspaper the railroad has changed operations to improve flow. Not every train returning to Secaucus Junction after the game goes on to Hoboken. Some of the trains go back to the Meadowlands to pick up more passengers at peak times.
