Race Car Driver Speeds Through Lincoln Tunnel At Nearly 200 MPH
WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- It's a commuter's dream.
Former Formula 1 race car driver David Coulthard got the chance to drive through the Lincoln Tunnel at nearly 200 miles per hour early Wednesday morning.
Coulthard sped through at more than five times the tunnel's 35 mile per hour speed limit.
He made the 1.5 mile trip from Weehawken to Manhattan in under a minute. At the posted speed limit, it takes drivers at least two minutes and 45 seconds to make the trip.
"It's a weird attack on your senses when you go fast and you've got sort of this closure of the tunnel leading to the point," Coulthard said. "I was disappointed we couldn't go faster."
The quick commute was part of a promotional tour for the Grand Prix of America that is being held in New Jersey next June.
