Quinnipiac Suspends Fraternity, Expels Student Over Hazing Allegations
HAMDEN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Quinnipiac University officials have temporarily shut down a fraternity, expelled a student and suspended two other frat members during an investigation into hazing allegations.
Officials at the private Connecticut college announced the disciplinary actions against Tau Kappa Epsilon on Tuesday. School officials declined to release details of the allegations.
Lynn Bushnell, the university's vice president for public affairs, said in a statement that the school has issued a cease-and-desist order to the local fraternity chapter, prohibiting it from operating until the student disciplinary process is complete.
Bushnell also said other fraternity members have been sanctioned and several more will face the disciplinary process.
"With the safety and security of our students being paramount, the university will simply not tolerate hazing of any kind by any group or individual and will act swiftly to remove those held responsible from the community," Bushnell said.
Messages seeking comment were left Tuesday with officials from the local chapter and national office of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
