Queens Teen Hopes To Become Leukemia And Lymphoma Society's Youngest Woman Of The Year
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Queens teenager is hoping to become the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's youngest Woman of the Year in a charity fundraising competition.
At just 15-years-old, Lisette Watters of South Ozone Park has already spent more than a decade helping in the battle against leukemia.
It all started with her baby sister, Caroline.
"Luckily, I was a perfect match and at the age of 4, I gave her my bone marrow to save her life," Lisette told WCBS 880 reporter Jim Smith. "All I wanted for her was to get better."

It worked.
"She's doing fantastic. She's healthy," she said.
Now through the first week of June, she's competing against adults to raise the most money for the coveted Woman of the Year title from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
"It would mean the world to me. Like all of my dreams would come true," she said.
Like a fundraising CEO, she's dispatched her team to dinners, t-shirt sales, and online donations.
The goal is $100,000, but it has set a priceless example.
"I hope to influence other people my age that they don't have to wait until they are adults to make a difference," she said. "I'm raising a ton of money, which goes towards blood cancer research and all I want is to find a cure for blood cancers."
