Innocent Bystanders Struck By Stray Bullets Inside Queens Home
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Two best friends were struck by stray bullets inside a home in Queens.
Police said the women, ages 74 and 82, were innocent bystanders, not the intended targets. One was grazed in the shoulder, the other in the forearm.
A dispute was reported around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday outside Mavis Claggett's house on 136th Avenue near 220th Place in Laurelton.
"We don't have no arguments with nobody," Clagett told CBS2.
Shots rang out while she was sitting inside her kitchen.
"The blood started to run down," she said. "When we look over at the ceiling, we see four more gunshots."
Claggett's friend Bula Clark was staying with her while visiting from Jamaica for two weeks.
"Very scared," Clark said. "I'm glad to be alive."
Neighbors said they heard the commotion.
"I heard a 'boom, boom, boom,' and I didn't want to open the door," said Nat Goodwin. "I heard the car leaving."
The shooter, or shooters, were gone when police arrived. There's no word on who they're searching for.
