Man Slashes Postal Worker, Barricades Himself In Queens, Police Say
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man slashed a postal worker in the face and went on to barricade himself into his apartment in Laurelton, Queens Monday, police said.
Police said the 32-year-old man slashed the postal worker at a home on 220th Place in Queens, police said. The postal worker, a woman, was delivering mail to the home at the time, police said.
Police identified the man as Robert Powell, 32. He was arrested and charged with assault.
Powell's mother told CBS2 she did not know what happened.
"I think it's a tragedy. Maybe my son needs help. Maybe he needs something," Powell's mother said. "My neighbors tell me he was OK. He wasn't abused. He probably gave up or whatever he did."
The postal worker needed stitches to close the wound.
