Queens Man Now Charged With First-Degree Murder In Alleged Murder Of Ex-Girlfriend
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A Queens man accused of strangling and beating his ex-girlfriend to death now faces charges of first-degree murder.
University of Florida law school graduate Jason Bohn was initially arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the death of 27-year old Danielle Thomas last month.
District Attorney Richard Brown says the grand jury increased the severity of the charges after finding Bohn's actions "especially cruel."
He is now charged in a ten-count indictment.
"The victim was a young woman with a bright and promising future whose life was brutally and senselessly cut short allegedly at the hands of the defendant," Brown said. "This case will be vigorously prosecuted to ensure that justice is served for both the victim and her family."
According to the criminal complaint filed against Bohn at the time of his arrest, police discovered Thomas' bruised body in the couple's apartment, laying face up in the bathtub surrounded with bags of ice.
A note found at the scene read, ""It was an accident. I had been drinking and I was drunk when I got home. She was already asleep. I woke up and there was fighting between us. When I woke up again she was unconscious. I am sorry."
Thomas is said to have reported an incident of assault and repeated harassment to Police weeks before her death, leading to Bohn's arrest for assault and aggravated harassment.
If convicted, Bohn faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
