NYPD Investigating Deadly Hit-And-Run In Queens Involving Allegedly Stolen Ford Mustang
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run in Queens. In a horrific turn of events, the victim's family members witnessed the aftermath of the crash.
CBS2's Kiran Dhillon spoke to them on Sunday.
"I'm numb. Right now, I'm numb," Letoya Cyrus said.
Cyrus was in absolute shock. Her brother, 48-year-old Earl Hall, was killed in a hit and run at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday in Jamaica.
The crash happened on Linden Boulevard near Bedell Street, about a block from where Hall lived.
His family said he was on the way to the store when he was hit. His sister and mother heard the impact.
"It was so hard that I thought another car hit another car," Cyrus said.
They, along with the victim's 16-year-old daughter rushed to the scene, only to find him lying in the street without a pulse.
"I ran down the block and my brother was gone," Cyrus said. "He didn't even look like him. He didn't even look like him."
According to the NYPD, Hall was hit by a 2016 Ford Mustang GT and suffered head trauma.
His cousin said eyewitnesses told the family the impact was terrifying.
"It hit him, he fly in the air, twists around, hits the windshield and then it drags him further down the block," Onetha Lewis said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the Mustang that him was reported stolen shortly before the crash.
Police said the driver, after hitting Hall, got out of the car and fled the scene in another vehicle that picked him up.
"He was left in the street, in our opinion like roadkill," Lewis said.
The family said Hall had previously suffered a stroke and was largely paralyzed on the left side.
Still, he was a positive person.
"He was a bubbly person. He enjoyed living life," Lewis said.
"I'm sad. I'm a lot of things. Like I said, I'm numb, but I'm angry right now," Cyrus added.
The family is now trying to make sense of how a trip to the store ended in tragedy.
