Queens DA: Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges After Dropping Off Laptop For Repair
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Queens man is under arrest after child pornography images were found on the laptop computer he had dropped off for repair, prosecutors announced.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Michael Murray, of East Elmhurst, faces 15 counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child.
Prosecutors say the images were discovered April 1 by a technician at a Best Buy electronics store in Long Island City where the 61-year-old defendant took the laptop to be repaired.
Murray admitted to detectives that he had been exchanging files of child pornography with others online for about five years, prosecutors said.
"This defendant is alleged to have had some very disturbing photographs of children being sexually abused on his computer. These photographs depict real children who will no doubt be emotionally and physically scarred for the rest of their lives," DA Brown said in a statement.
If convicted, Murray faces up to four years in prison.
