Queens Couple Gets Prison For Forcing Girls Into Prostitution
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Queens man and his girlfriend have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to sex trafficking.
Authorities said Hikeem L. Green, 39, and Darcell Marshall, 22, forced two women into prostitution: a 19-year-old runaway from Rockland County and a 20 year old from New York City.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said Green held the two women captive from October 2012 to December 2012 at a house on Springfield Boulevard in St. Albans. He took pictures of them and advertised them online as prostitutes.
The women then met with men who responded to the ads and engaged in sexual acts for money which they had to turn over to the couple, Brown said.
Green received up to 12 years in prison. Marshall got up to three years.
"Today's sentence should serve as a warning to those who would prey upon troubled young women and force them to work as prostitutes," Brown said in a statement released Tuesday. "These convictions and sentences serve as a measure of justice for the victims and send a message that sex trafficking will not be tolerated in Queens County."
