Pulse Nightclub Owner To Ride On Lead Float At NYC Pride Parade
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Barbara Poma, owner of Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, and Neema Bahrami, Pulse Nightclub Entertainment Manager, will visit New York City this weekend as honored guests of the NYC Pride organization.
Poma and Bahrami will address the more than 4,000 attendees of the NYC LGBT Pride Rally on Friday, June 24 at Hudson River Park's Pier 26. On Sunday, June 26, Poma and Bahrami will ride on the lead float in the pride march.
After the March, the pair will be speaking at the PrideFest Street Festival on Hudson Street.
NYC Pride plans to honor the 49 victims of the June 12 Pulse Nightclub attack during several of the weekend's events.
At the Rally, attendees will be given an orange bandana as they enter the event. The color orange was chosen for its connection to both Orlando and the movement to end gun violence.
The Rally will begin at 7 p.m. with a reading of the Orlando victims' names. Multiple speakers are expected to talk about the attack, and how the LGBT community moves forward, during the event.
On Sunday, the NYC Pride March lead float will be surrounded by a color guard from Scouts for Equality, carrying 49 orange flags with a rainbow stripe to remember the victims.
The NYC Pride March steps off from 36th Street and 5th Avenue at noon on Sunday.
