Published Reports Reveal Identities Of Homeowners With Exposed Glass Shower
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The identities of the owners of a Cobble Hill, Brooklyn home with an exposed glass shower were revealed in published reports Tuesday.
New York Times writer Julie Scelfo, 39, and her husband, former Manhattan prosecutor James Cavoli, 46, are the owners of the home, according to reports in New York Magazine and the New York Daily News.
In 2009, Scelfo published a story for the New York Times headlined, "Window Watchers in a City of Strangers," telling the story of people who are able to watch the private lives of their neighbors from their own windows.
In the Daily News report, Cavoli said in a statement that he and his wife were "flattered and mildly fascinated" that there has been so much interest in the bathroom fixture, even though it is under construction and is not being used.
He said glass privacy coverings are coming, the newspaper reported.
Scelfo, a mother of three, declined to comment to the newspaper. But an assistant said the couple only uses a well-covered second-floor bathroom for bathing and showering purposes, the newspaper reported.
Some locals -- at least those willing to talk -- seemed shocked by the shower show in speaking to CBS 2 last week.
"I don't think it's appropriate, especially in a neighborhood where a lot of kids go to school just down the block," one person said.
"I feel bad for the neighbors, just because depending on who lives there you know?" another said.
"I certainly wouldn't mind having a look depending on who's taking a shower," another added.
Some neighbors have complained not about the shower, but about the three-story extension of which it is a part – saying it blocks their view and that the community was opposed to it, the newspaper reported.
