Hearings Planned To Discuss Environmental Impact Of New Tappan Zee Bridge Project
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Thousands of commuters will get their chance to sound off on plans to replace the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Two public hearings are planned for this week on the multi-billion dollar project set to begin this summer. The hearings will focus on environmental impact.
Back in January, the state released an environmental impact statement on the new bridge and found it would not increase pollution to the Hudson River and might improve air quality because of better traffic flow.
Four potential bidders are now preparing designs and one of them will get the job in July. The current plan is to have the new Tappan Zee Bridge up and running in about five years.
The first public hearing is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Palisades Center in West Nyack. The second is Thursday, also from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.
