Prosecutors Will Not File Charges After Boy Put In Washing Machine At Camden Laundromat

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey prosecutor will not file criminal charges against a man who allegedly put a baby boy in a Laundromat washing machine.

Two weeks ago, 1-year-old Saimer David was being cared for by a baby sitter at a Laundromat.

A man, who is not the child's father as originally reported, was caught on surveillance video putting the child in the washer.

The two were apparently just playing around, but the door to the machine automatically locked and the washer started spinning and filling with water.

The boy's mother, Sakia David, said she didn't know about the incident until she saw it on the television and was contacted by police.

"I never knew about none of this," David said. "I found out on the news."

The boy bounced around in the machine for about a minute until a Laundromat employee cut the power, shutting off the machine.

The boy was taken to the hospital and treated for scrapes and bruises.

In an interview Thursday, David said she wants the baby sitter to be punished for letting her friend put the boy in the washer.

Authorities said the man was not aware the machine would start up on its own and charges will not be filed.
