Prosecutors Want Maximum Sentence For Dr. Stan Li In Prescription Drug Deaths Case
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Prosecutors are pressing for a pill-peddling doctor convicted in two overdose deaths to be given the maximum prison sentence.
In a sentencing memorandum filed Monday, prosecutors argue that Dr. Stan Li should be given consecutive sentences totaling 30 years for the deaths of two patients, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported. He faces a minimum sentence of 12 years.
Prosecutors note that there is no more graphic example of the danger Li's pain management clinic in Queens posed to the public than the murderous rampage by David Laffer, one of his patients.

Laffer massacred four people in a small Long Island pharmacy in 2011 while stealing 11,000 hydrocodone pills.
As prosecutors put it, Li created the risk by feeding the habits of desperate drug addicts.
Li is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11. He was convicted in July of two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of Joseph Hague and Nicholas Rappold. He was also found guilty of reckless endangerment in connection with two more patient overdose deaths and four near-fatal overdoses.
