Prosecutors: Off-Duty Jersey City Cops' Death Doesn't Appear To Be Suspicious
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Prosecutors said that the death of an off-duty police officer whose body was found inside her northern New Jersey home this weekend does not appear to be suspicious.
38-year-old Olympia Sumter, a 16-year veteran of the Jersey City police force, was found in her living room by a relative late on Friday night.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio told The Jersey Journal that there was no sign of trauma to Sumter's body, and there was no forced entry to her Jersey City residence.
DeFazio said that an autopsy was conducted on Saturday, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. He did not know if Sumter had a history of medical problems.
Jersey City police declined to comment on Sumter's death on Sunday.
